Aikido, Aiki Jujutsu, Aikijujitsu, Aikibudo, Aikibujutsu, Aiki No Jutsu, Jujutsu, Jujitsu, Jiujitsu, Hakko Ryu, Takeda Ryu, Daito Ryu, Yawara, Asayama Ichiden Ryu, Shindo Yoshin Ryu, Shindo Ryu Yamanaka Ha, Hapkido, Hapki Yu Sool, Dae Dong Ryu, Gen Ryu, Shu Ryu, Hojo jutsu ? Are these martial arts connected ?Are they similar ? Do they have the same origins ? Can you trace back the origin of these martial arts ? Who was at the origin of these arts ? Did you know that different Clans in old Japan had different martial arts, and each Clan kept their techniques secret written in Hiden Makimono 'Secret Scrolls' and these scrolls were kept by the head master , and when someone is Menkyo Kaiden it means that this person have in his hands the secret scrolls of this Ryu, and this person has learned all the techniques of this Ryu (school). Did you know that old Bujutsu Ryu (art of war schools) were complete in the sence that a soldier is fighting a war and has to win by all means..swimming , climbing, jumping, using a sword, spear and other weapons, horseback riding etc.. So it is no surprise that Koryu Bujutsu Ryu (old art of war schools) will teach armed and unarmed waza. Till this day we teach different weapons within the same Ryu.Obviously different schools teach different ways of using weaponry and different ways of unarmed combat .Each Ryu tried to be as complete as possible in that regard. For Example Takeda Ryu will have the following taught at the Dojo; Kenjutsu, Iai Do, Batto Jutsu, Aikijutsu, Jodo, Jukempo, Shugi Jutsu, Shuriken Jutsu.Takeda Ryu is also very famous for the Horse Riding Martial Art and archery, Yabusame, which unfortunately I dont teach (because I didnt learn).Other Ryu will have a medical aspect in addition to the martial art like Shiatsu in Hakko Ryu, or accupunture and cupping.Other Ryu like Shindo Ryu, will have rope tying Hojo Jutsu , and the use of specialised weapons, some very small you can hide in your palm like the Suntetsu, the Kusari Fundo, the Te no Uchi, other larger weapons like the Kusarikama, Yari and Naginata.
I hope my website will help you find what you are looking for, and will give you some answers and insight to our Ryus. Another very important point I would like to mention here is that I keep each Ryu as pure as possible, the same way I learned it. In other words I do not mix styles to make it 'flashy' or 'cooler' and I do not want to create my own style.
